I have always considered myself to be a leader throughout my life. When I was a young child, I took it very seriously when I was told by my parents, "I expect you to be a leader, not a follower." In elementary school, I made sure I was always in the front of the class and volunteered to help the teacher with anything needed. That type of behavior has stuck with me throughout high school, college, and now in the workforce. But with that said, I still do not believe I have reached my potential in the type of leader I can be. In my opinion, that is a good thing, right? Who exactly wants to have their best years behind them in regards to anything in their life? I know I can still develop my leadership skills and with the start of my class in leadership in my MBA program at Centenary College, my future looks bright.
Any MBA course should challenge the way you think and force you to think and look at things in a different way. When I reviewed the objectives of each week in the syllabus of my leadership class, I was able to see that this class will do just that. I enjoy the fact that I will be analyzing leadership from different angles. I will be able to learn about different styles that would help me in my current work role. I also enjoy the fact that I have assigned observers that will help me in becoming a better leader. I expect the threaded discussions to be interesting as well. In the first week, I have noticed that the professor challenges her students to expand more on a point that was made and she also brings up new points to think about and discuss. Finally, this blog was a great idea! This is the first blog I have ever created and I'm sure I will enjoy reflecting on the ups and the downs of this particular class and the rest of my time in the MBA program.
